2 days custody for Vikas Barala, for stalking Varnika

Vikas Barala, the son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, was arrested on 9th August after being charged with trying to kidnap a woman he had stalked and followed on the streets of Chandigarh last week.

After interrogating him for nearly three hours, the police said it has evidence and witnesses against the 23-year-old law student, who had earlier been let off on bail but now faces up to seven years in jail.

The notice has been issued under 160 Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and the case has been filed against Barala under Section 354D (stalking), 341 (wrongful restraint), 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 185 MV Act (rash driving). Two new charges. These are attempted abduction (Sections 365 and 511).

“We have new pieces of evidence as regards CCTV evidence… also we have witnesses and a map of the route,” said senior police officer Tejinder Luthra, adding that the force had received “many details” in the past four days.

“We welcome any evidence but we now have sufficient evidence in the case…Everything under the sun will be done to ensure justice,” he said.

Vikas summoned to court

Earlier, there were reports that video footage of seven of the nine CCTVs had gone missing.

Kuldeep Barala, the nephew of Subhash Barala, used the social media to target Varnika raising questions over her character. Interestingly, Kuldeep himself is accused of abducting a minor girl and a case was registered against him on May 8, 2017.

A senior politician when released a statement saying girls should not go out after midnight, women took on twitter and made the #AintnoCindrella hashtag viral on social media posting their photos out at midnight on facebook and twitter.
