Mayawati places BJP as her 1st opponent in UP Elections,2017

The Bahujan Samajwadi Party leader, Mayawati, held a press conference on her 61stBirthday in Lucknow. The conference was seen as one that pushed forward the idea of a battle, which the Uttar Pradesh Elections 2017 are going to comprise of. Mayawati indicated that the Bhartiya Janata Party was the primary opponent of the BSP, as far as the UP Elections were considered, dismissing other parties, including the current ruling one. The BSP Supremo also spoke of the crores of money lying unused. Mayawati, self-hailed as the voice of the Dalit community, claimed that the privatization of the Central government jobs would impact the Reservation system, posing a serious problem for the Backward Classes and Castes. Thus, setting up the BJP as its opposition, Mayawati officially entered the Election scenario.

Uttar Pradesh’s 400+ seats are currently divided into 229 held by Samajwadi Party, 79 by SP’s Opposition, the Bahujan Samajwadi Party and the BJP and Congress controlling 41 and 29 seats, respectively. There’s an indication that the 2017 UP Elections may witness SP and BJP contesting against each other. The dates for the UP Elections were announced recently; it would begin on February 11 and continue till March 8, with 5 other Phases in between.

UP has been a site of battle for decades now due to its size, demography and geographic location.
